Last week I was fortunate to hear Adam Hostetter, Manager of the Design & Development Group of American Technology Services (ATS), speak at the Technology SIG of the NY State Society of Association Executives speak about “Making Your Website Mobile Friendly”.

Adam called this “responsive” as the website would be built to respond to the type of access being requested; computer, tablet, smartphone. The idea is not to build a separate website for each, but one that is responsive. This way, any changes made, go across all.

My take away, is that when you are building or having built your company or event website, making the extra effort to build a responsive site is really worth it.

From one of my favorite sources of information, Mashable:
“People around the globe are accessing the web via their smartphones more often than ever. So far in 2013, 17.4% of web traffic has come through mobile, representing more than a 6% increase since 2012 when 11.1% of traffic came from mobile.” Access the web in this manner is only gong to increase. Therefore, why not let potential meeting attendees find everything they need to know on their mobile devices?

My little bit of disclosure here: This year I am the Chairperson of the Technology Committee for NYSAE! For anyone reading my blog you may have figured out that I believe in leveraging technology to help make for seamless events. However, the caveat is that technology must be used appropriately. I don’t suggest using a technology tool, just because it looks cool. Remember an important part of meeting and event planning is to know your objectives. An example is Online Registration for better attendee management. http://pnventerprises.com/pnvregistration/ or extending the reach of an event. http://pnventerprises.com/pnvwebcasts/
