Most meeting planners are finding ways to "green" their meeting, from using recycled or recyclable materials, to locally grown and produced food. How about replacing your printed conference program with a mobile app! This could possibly save an annual meeting thousands of dollars in printing costs alone. Then there's the cost of freight to deliver to the meeting venue, personnel to unpack and distribute. Certainly there's a cost to create the app, but if one checks costs and compares them side by side, you most likely will find that not only are being "green", but you're saving money and that could be as high as  $50,000 in printing and shipping costs.  Mobile apps start at about $5,000!

A well done mobile app reduces and possibly eliminate the need for printed materials of many kinds. This should be considered and included when you are at the beginning stages of conference planning and conference production.

Additionally QR Codes can be used for sessions, exhibits and more.

There's no fear of lack of advertising without a conference book as the app is a terrific sponsorship opportunity as are QR codes.

Thinking differently can be to your bottom line advantage no matter what type of event technology or event production you are working on.

Hi Av hire- Sorry that my response is so very tardy, but here it is.
There are so many QR Code creators, I felt that I couldn’t list them all here. I will blog soon explaining more about QR Codes. However, to help others understand better what a QR Code is, the following is from Wikipedia:
A QR code (abbreviated from Quick Response code) is a specific matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code) that is readable by dedicated QR barcode readers and camera telephones. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded may be text, URL, or other data.

We have a live meeting app called MyMeetingPro. Facilitators can capture agreements electronically and send them to participants via email. You eliminate the need to use up lots of paper and trees from flip chart pads. Just another “green” idea.

Thank you for sharing your nice article. I totally agree that going green should the direction for all of us who want to help save mother nature. I am sorry to say but I believe you did not mention the name of the specific app. It would be much better if you included some pictures on your post.
